Operation Red Nose raised almost double the amount of money we did last year, and once again we need to choose a deserving local youth charity to give it to: Saint John Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Saint John, The Joshua Group, The Teen Resource Centre, The Chicken Noodle Soup Club, or YM-YWCA Strong Kids
Thank you for voting! The cheque will be presented to a representative of the winning charity at the volunteer appreciation party on January 29th, 2010. Many thanks to our local sponsors:
What is ORN? Operation Red Nose is a unique program against drinking and driving. Essentially, it is a volunteer safe ride home service provided during the Holiday Season to all motorists who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle. It is an original and free way of getting a safe ride in one’s own vehicle without driving it - and it is absolutely free! Since 1984, Operation Red Nose’s mission has been to encourage responsible behaviour with regard to impaired driving in a non-judgemental manner by enabling communities to provide a free and confidential chauffeur service to their members, the financial benefits of which are redistributed to local organizations dedicated to youth. How does the service work? The Operation Red nose service provides a ride home for both drivers and their vehicles after they have been out enjoying a social occasion. You need to have your own vehicle to be eligible to use the service. Volunteers are broken up into teams of three. Two of these three volunteers ride with the client in their vehicle while the other volunteer follows behind them in their own car. These volunteers are the volunteer driver, the navigator and the escort driver. How much does this service cost? The service is free. Any donations that are received go to a local youth charity that will be voted on by clients and FUSION members in January. There is one requirement. The client must own or operate a vehicle at the time of the call. The rules are simple – no vehicle – no service. This is not a taxi service but a volunteer driver service for motorists and their cars. How do clients access this service? Headquarters: 693-6810 This service is confidential. The volunteers commit to be discreet by signing a form in which they agree not to give any details that could identify a client. Where is this service available? Operation Red Nose is available in Greater Saint John, from the Quispamsis to Grand Bay-Westfield city limits. When is this service available? In 2009: November 27, 28 and December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 26 and 31 Interested in more information? Please visit the Operation Red Nose website at: www.operationrednose.com See you next year! |
